MHI awarded 3 year System Improvement Project for the Saudi Electric Company
MHI has been contracted to assist the Saudi Electric Company (SEC) improve the performance of its electricity transmission network. The contract awarded to MHI contains six components each one focused on a specific need of the SEC. The components include system engineering studies; providing full time system operations specialists to assist with the management of operating centres; provide system operations training on site and in Manitoba; and review, update, create, and unify the Operating Policies, Procedures, & Guidelines for the four main operating areas
SEC is a National Electric Company generating, transmitting & distributing about 32,000 MW of electric power & serving all regions of Saudi Arabia. SEC transmits electric power to all Areas in the Kingdom through a large number of transmission lines and substations of 380, 230, 132, 115 & 110 kV voltage ratings.
The Project is expected to mobilize in early 2010.

In lieu of sending traditional Holiday cards, Manitoba Hydro International (MHI) donated mosquito nets to be distributed within Sub-Saharan Africa for the prevention of malaria – one of the largest killers of children in Africa.
Additionally, MHI staff funded 75 hampers including cooking pots, rice, cooking oil, tea, spices, and soccer balls to be distributed by MHI's staff in southern Tanzania.

MHI in a subcontractor role in Phase II of the Kabul Electricity Supply Improvement Program funded by USAID
Since early 2009, MHI has provided services to PA Consulting Group of Washington in support of the Kabul Electricity Supply Improvement Program (KESIP) funded by USAID. The KESIP project involves providing consultancy and advisory services to the management of KED, Kabul's government run utility. MHI's involvement in Phase II of this project, which commenced in December 2009, and involves the staffing of two advisory positions for a two year period and the completion of 6 separate studies covering various operating areas of the utility including revenue protection, revenue losses reduction, training needs analyses, and network operation and maintenance.

MHI awarded World Bank contract to provide Power Markets Tariff Design and Settlements Training for the Nile Basin Initiative
MHI was the successful bidder to design and deliver power markets tariff design and settlements training to system planning experts, (engineers, economists, market regulators, and related disciplinarians) drawn from the ministries responsible for electricity, power utilities, and relevant power development agencies in Nile Basin Initiative member countries.
The training is focused on equipping participants with the principles, techniques, models, and templates used in power market transmission and generation tariff-design and transaction settlements. The training will take place in Kigali, Rwanda in mid February 2010.

MHI Sponsors Africa Day in Ottawa
This June, MHI will be a sponsor of Africa Day in Ottawa, which has been aligned to coincide with CCAfrica's Annual General Meeting. This event is being organized by the African Diplomatic Corps and serves as an opportunity to meet with representatives from 31 different countries within MHI's primary market. The banquet features the Governor General of Canada, Michaëlle Jean, as the Patron of Honour. MHI is proud to support this day of celebration and looks forward to attending Africa Day later this month.

MHI/Encor Initiative – Canadian Gas Services International
MHI has recently developed an initiative with Encor International Inc. of British Columbia to form Canadian Gas Services International Ltd. (CGSI). This new line of business allows MHI to broaden its service offerings to include the development of gas transmission, distribution, and utilization opportunities in the worldwide marketplace. CGSI combines the international project history of Encor with the capabilities and international experience of MHI. Encor's principals and project teams have successfully completed over 70 natural gas, LPG, and CNG projects in over twenty countries worldwide.
In coming months, CGSI will be ready to provide services to clients in all aspects of natural gas, LPG, LNG, and CNG distribution and utilization.
